Renew the Face of the Earth

More often than not when we see something before our eyes that we don't understand we say: "well, what do the scientists have to say about it?" And then if one of them can give an answer, we ask, "what proof do you have?" Sometimes it may be more fitting to direct such questions to an artist.

Ulrich Moskopp has organized several artistic exhibitions of the Holy Face of Manoppello entitled Volto Santo in Germany at Cologne and Dusseldorf. He is sharing them with us at his website. Thank you Ulrich.

Can we hope that more light from more such artists is indeed on the way?

The Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Face

Today, February 15, if it were not a Sunday we would be celebrating in Jesuit churches the feast of St. Claude La Colombiere, the Jesuit spiritual director and co-worker of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the spreading of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was in the latter part of the 17th century, when the Holy Face of Manoppello was known only to those in Abruzzo, and the Veronica image was only a distant memory to even the best informed, that the Sacred Heart devotion was urged by Jesus Himself. Isn't it the case that the image of the Sacred Heart almost always includes a beautiful image of the face of Jesus? How well the two devotions compliment each other.

Blessed are Your Eyes

"Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."

Matthew 13:16-17
